Kraken win two straight

It’s been a quiet season for veteran Seattle Kraken forward Jordan Eberle with only one goal and five assists in the first 18 games of the season. But there’s something about facing the Vancouver Canucks. With a goal and two assists, Eberle led the Kraken to a 4-3 victory over the Canucks last night at Rogers Arena. Eberle, who began his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers back in 2010, now has 24 goals in his career against the Canucks, the most of any active National Hockey League player. With the victory, the Kraken improve to 7-8-4. Vancouver’s 12-5-1 and last night’s loss marked the Canucks’ first regulation loss on home ice this season. It was Eberle’s assist that accounted for the game winner. After defenseman Jamie Oleksiak dumped the puck into the left corner, Eberle intercepted a clearing pass by Canuck defenseman Tyler Myers (another Kraken nemesis) and centered a pass to Matty Beniers in the slot, who sent home his third goal of the season. “We’ve been in almo...

Kraken blow another lead to Oilers

By Raymond V. Murphy There were moments in the last two Seattle Kraken games where it appeared that the Kraken had rightened the ship and were playing the type of hockey that propelled the team to the second round of last season’s Stanley Cup playoffs. However, there were no 60 minute (or more) efforts as Seattle could only muster one standings point in the two games. The Kraken, looked to be headed for a road victory over the Edmonton Oilers last night at Rogers’ Center, boasting a 3-1 lead with seven minutes remaining in the contest. But then Edmonton’s Evander Kane, the proverbial thorn in the Kraken’s side in previous games, went to work. The veteran winger scored three consecutive goals, notching the game winner at 2:57 of the overtime frame. “This one’s gonna sting,” said Kraken coach Dave Hakstol. “We’ve got to turn the page and get ready to go (tonight).” The Kraken were actually 46 seconds away from a victory, and Kane’s game-tyer provid...

Oilers end losing streak against Kraken

Oilers end losing streak vs. Kraken                             Kraken coach Dave Hakstol must wonder why his team isn't playing better on home i                               ice this season. By Raymond V. Murphy The Edmonton Oilers, the underachievers of the NHL, came to Seattle last night desperately in need of a victory. The Oilers, now 3-9-1, were picked by many at the beginning of the season to win the Pacific Division even ahead of the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights. So maybe the Oilers were just due to win a game – and that’s what they did. After picking up three points in two road games, the Kraken dropped a 4-1 decision to Edmonton at Climate Pledge Arena. The visitors rang up four goals in the first period and hung on for a 4-1 victory. Forward Zach Hyman scored a pure hat trick, three consecutive...

Kraken blow lead to Flames

Kraken blow another lead, lose to Flames, 6-3 By Raymond V. Murphy For the second consecutive game, the Seattle Kraken had a poor second period after a promising start. But unlike their previous game against the Nashville Predators, a 4-2 victory, the Kraken were unable to rebound in the final period and dropped a 6-3 decision to the Calgary Flames last night at Climate Pledge Arena. The Flames’ victory ended a six-game losing streak by the Kraken’s Pacific Division rivals. “You can’t underestimate any team,” said the Kraken’s Pierre Eduard Bellamare after the game. “Sometimes you don’t get the breaks but we hurt ourselves. It’s not the way you want to start (an upcoming) road trip.” Kraken took advantage of a lengthy power play early. Calgary’s Andrew Mangepane received a five-minute penalty and was kicked out of the game for cross-checking the Kraken’s Jared McCann in the head while he was down on the ice. Oliver Bjorkstrand fired home   shot from the left circle. ...

Kraken win second in a row, topple Predators, 4-2 By Raymond V. Murphy The first game back home after a cross-country road trip can be a tough one for a hockey team. But on a night when the Seattle Kraken honored their popular TV announcer with a `John Forslund Bobblehead Night,’ the Kraken posted a 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators last night at Climate Pledge Arena. Goalie Philipp Grubauer earned number-one star honors with 32 saves in the Kraken net. In two games against the Predators, Grubauer has stopped 65 out of 69 shots. Coming off a four-game Eastern road trip where they compiled five standing points out of a possible eight, last night’s win improves the Kraken record to 4-5-2 on the season. The Preds, who defeated the Kraken in the second game of the season, fall to 4-6. Coach Dave Hakstol felt that the Kraken had trouble `getting their legs’ in the first two periods and former Conn Smythe Award winner for the league’s top defenseman, Roman Josi, notched ...
