Kraken back in the victory column

Image
Seattle hockey fans long nightmare is over. Actually, it was ONLY five straight losses for the Seattle Kraken. But last night’s 3-2 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Kings was a little bit sweeter because this contest had a lot of similarities to some of the Kraken’s recent losses. The Kraken were playing a solid game against their Pacific Division rivals, doing everything but putting the puck in the net. LA goaltender Anton Forsberg stopped everything shot his way and when Kevin Fiala scored with under six minutes remaining (with the Kraken’s Ryker Evans serving a high-sticking, double minor), there was a collective feeling of `hear we go again’ filling Climate Pledge Arena. Then with 34 seconds remaining, Forsberg received a tripping penalty against Jared McCann as the Kraken buzzed around the Kings’ net. With goaltender Joey Daccord pulled, Seattle capitalized on the two-man advantage six seconds later. Eeli Tolvanen shot from a bad angle, but Matty Beniers deflec...

Kraken close but no cigar

The Seattle Kraken’s woes continue. On Thursday, the Kraken had their worst game of the season, a 9-3 loss to the high-powered Edmonton Oilers. Last night, was a different story, but the results were the same as Seattle dropped a 4-3 decision to the Detroit Red Wings It was a fairly even contest, but thanks to future Hall-of-Famer Patrick Kane, the Kraken were unable to muster any standings points. With the game tied at three in the final three minutes, Red Wings’ goalie John Gibson made a kick save on the Kraken’s Tye Karte. Alex DeBrincat and Kane went down the ice on a 2-on-1 and Kane beat Seattle netminder Joey Daccord on the glove side for the 457 th goal of his career. The Red Wings, winless in three heading into last night’s game, improve their record 15-11-3. Seattle (11-9-6) has dropped four straight in regulation, with their last point coming in a shootout loss to the New York Islanders on Nov. 23. ``This was a little reset and we got back to basics,’’ said defen...

Seattle Torrent fans couldn’t have asked for a more exciting finish to the team’s first-ever victory last night at Climate Pledge Arena. The Torrent scored twice in 22 seconds within the last two minutes to post a 2-1 victory over the New York Sirens. The win improves the Torrent record to 1-1-0-1 on the season. Seattle alternate captain Alex Carpenter scored the tying marker at 18:36 and Hilary Knight, Torrent captain and former US Olympic captain, notched the game winner at 18:58. Hannah Murphy, playing her first pro game was a standout between the pipes. The former Colgate standout, stopped 23 of 24 shots to earn the victory.  “It was an awesome experience,’’ said Murphy, who faced another former Colgate goalie, New York’s Kayla Osborne, who had 16 saves. ``The Seattle fanbase was unbelievable and unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I had chills. To cap it off with the win was awesome.” Murphy had a busy second period as the Kingston, Ontario native had 12 saves. Afte...
