Kraken fall short in Montour's successful return

Image
For the fifth time in ten games this season, the Seattle Kraken played an overtime period. This time around, the OT lasted only 44 seconds as Cole Caufield’s shot trickled through the pads of Joey Daccord, to give the Montreal Canadiens a 4-3 victory last night at Climate Pledge Arena. Caulfield, the game’s number-one star, now holds the NHL record of 11 overtime goals (three this season). The contest also marked the second overtime game of the campaign between the Kraken and the Canadiens, both ending with a 4-3 Montreal victory. Seattle drops to 5-2-3 on the season. With the Vegas Golden Knights defeating the Carolina Hurricanes, 6-2, the Kraken reside in second place in the Pacific Division, two points behind the Knights. All 32 NHL teams were in action last night, what the NHL calls `The Frozen Frenzy.’ The Kraken sent the game into overtime with three goals in the final 11 minutes of regulation. After Alex Newhook had given Montreal a 3-0 lead with a shot from the righ...

Seattle wins again

While Seattleites mourn the Seattle Mariners failed bid to make their first World Series, Seattle’s other teams keep on winning. With Mariner superstar Julio Rodriguez in attendance, along with several members of the Seattle Storm and Seattle PWHL, the cities professional women’s hockey team slated to begin play last month, the Seattle Kraken bested the Edmonton Oilers, 3-2, last night at Climate Pledge Arena. The University of Washington defeated 23 rd ranked Illinois, yesterday afternoon. The Kraken are now undefeated, 3-0-0, in three home games this season. They come off a 2-2-2 road trip that saw the Kraken travel 6,000 miles, playing in six different cities. Last night’s victory was the second consecutive win for Seattle, besting two of the top teams in the NHL, Winnipeg and Edmonton. Joey Daccord-stop us if you’ve heard this before- was the star of the game for the Kraken with 31 saves on 33 shots. Kraken captain Jordan Eberle, who began his career as an Oiler, led t...

Kraken looking good

To those who don’t follow hockey closely, the Seattle Kraken are off to a better start than some might suspect. After winning their first two home games of the 2025-26 season, the Kraken lost their next two games – one in overtime and another in a shootout. But under the NHL’s curious way of figuring things out, Seattle received a standings’ point in each game for being deadlocked after three periods. This week started on a sour note as the Kraken lost their first two regulation games to the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals. But the Kraken rebounded last night with a solid road win over a good Winnipeg Jets team, 3-0.. Goaltender Joey Daccord, who was relieved after two periods against the Flyers on Monday night, rebounded with his first shutout of the season, 3-0. The Kraken improve to 4-2-2 on the season, finishing a six-game road trip against some good teams with a 2-2-2 record. This marks the best start in team history (the Kraken had never won their se...

The Seattle Mariners baseball season has come to a close. Seattle SPORTs Now predicted in April that the Mariners would make the World Series for the first time in their history. That wasn’t the case, but not from a lack of effort. After advancing to the American League championship series with a five-game win over the Detroit Tigers, the Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays squared off in a nerve-wracking seven game series. Everyone knows by now, Toronto defeated the Mariners, 4-3, on George Springer’s two-run eighth inning homer off Seattle reliever Eduard Bazardo. The Blue Jays, who came into the AL the same season as the Mariners, 1977, face the NL champion Los Angeles Dodgers starting this Friday. Along with the frustration of being beaten by the least popular Blue Jay among Seattle fans- dating back to Springer’s days with the Mariners’ hated rivals, the Houston Astros- Mariner fans will bemoan the fact that Bazardo was in the game to start with. George Kirby, Seat...

The Greatest Weekend in Seattle SPORTs

Image
Seattle SPORTs Now is live streaming on Bluesky during Mariner playoff games this week. If you enjoy these articles, look us up on that site. When sports fans or media discuss the best sports city, Eastern cities like New York, Boston and Philadelphia are mentioned along with Chicago in the middle of the country, but this past weekend may go done in history as the greatest weekend in Seattle sports. What may be the best three days in Seattle Mariners’ history, ironically coincided with every other active major league team representing the Emerald City also winning. Also, the University of Washington football team, which was the number one sports team in the city long before the professionals arrived, also defeated Rutgers in a Big Ten contest. The long awaited dream of many locals is to see the Mariners in the World Series. The Seahawks have won a Super Bowl, the WNBA Storm were champions a couple of times in the Sue Bird era, and even the Sonics won an NBA title before they ...

Mariners in 4?

Image
The last time the Seattle Mariners competed in the American League playoffs, their deciding game with the Houston Astros went 18 innings. Most likely Game One of the AL Divisional series between the M’s and the Detroit Tigers will have the same electricity in the Safeco Field stands that the Astros 1-0 victory had in 2002. A baseball playoff game isn’t the norm in the Emerald City as the Mariners have only seen the post-season three times in the 21 st century. That was evident in the two nights of celebration when the Mariners earned a playoff berth and then won the division with two home victories over baseball’s worst team of 2025- the Colorado Rockies. The Mariners, who won their first AL West title since 2001 earned a first-round bye and loom as the favorites over the Detroit Tigers who squeezed past the Cleveland Guardians in a best-of-three first round playoff series. Seattle hosts the Bengals in two weekend games and the best-of-five series moves back to Detroit on ...
